About the Trainer:
Bernard "Bernie" Kehoe
Technical Trainer, Strikers Fox Valley
"My philosophy is, "the game is the most fun for a player when he or she can perform the skills of the game to meet the demands of the competition." I have always been a firm believer in the fundamentals of the game, with a passion for every player I train to enjoy their soccer experience for as long as they wish.
My objective as the Technical Trainer for the Strikers with great support from the board and staff is to give every player in our club, the chance to develop the skills necessary to excel in the game. To meet those objectives I have designed age specific programs, including technique in ball striking (trapping, passing and dribbling). The development of an individual's self esteem is as important as soccer skill development. As a club we recognize the importance of the emphasis on these skills that are sometimes overlooked. Our commitment is the long-term development of each player.
I have been coaching and training soccer players for over 20 years. Originally from Batavia, I have been involved in sports my entire life. Of the hundreds of players that I have trained, many have gone on to play in college, including Jill Krivacek and Ellen Bartindale (Notre Dame), Kate Cunningham (Kansas), Mo Smunt (Northern Illinois), Zac Scaffidi (Michigan State), Mitch Welsch (Eastern Illinois), plus many many more players that have found great success playing competitively at NAIA, NCAA Div. II and NCAA Div. III institutions.
Most notably, are the successes of my children...Angie played on 2 National and 3 Illinois State Championship teams, and sons Mike and Darby each earned scholarships to play Division I soccer at Eastern Illinois University. Mike graduated in 2008 and continues to play in the Men's Division with many former Strikers players. Darby is currently starting Center Mid for Eastern Illinois and is playing for the U23 Strikers. Darby's statement in this year's media guide for Eastern Illinois sums up how many players feel about how I have impacted them, "My father has been a major influence on my sports career. He has taught me everything that I know about the game, and has pushed me to be my best at all times."
While thoroughly enjoying my years of coaching, my passion is developing players. I look forward to meeting and working with your kids."
